As a Clinical Laboratory Assistant, you are responsible for sample preparation, sample testing, and post analytical tasks such as sample storage and disposal, and maintenance procedures.
Status: Permanent, Full-Time (Guaranteed 37.5 hours per week)

Shift: Monday to Friday, 6:30 am – 2:30 pm or 7:00 am – 3:00 pm

How YOU will make a difference:
- Ensure that all samples are properly labeled and identified before testing
- Follow established protocol for the handling of unsuitable samples
- Operate complex instruments following department procedures
- Perform simple non-interpretive testing procedures
- Ensure that all abnormal, critical and STATS are processed as outlined in the department guidelines
- Responsible for the follow-up on missing samples, documentation and results as and when required
- Ensure all inquiries and problems are handled in a courteous and professional manner
- Ensure adequate amount of supplies are on hand and that validated reagents and testing kits to be used are in date order
- Data enter the results into the company’s database as required
- Ensure that quality control checks are performed as required in documented work procedures
- Refer results for Medical Laboratory Technologist to review
- Responsible for monitoring quality control guidelines and making appropriate corrections
- Responsible to follow all relevant pre and/or post analytical quality protocols as described in the company quality assurance manual
- Perform routine equipment maintenance following documented procedures
- Document all maintenance performed, including minor troubleshooting following manufacturer’s instructions
- Observe and report all malfunctions in equipment and maintain all required logbooks for routine equipment
- Responsible for disinfecting the work area and equipment on a daily basis
- Store and discard specimens according to appropriate department procedure manuals

- Performs simple non-interpretive testing procedures under the supervision of a qualified technologist.
- Ensures all inquiries and problems are handled in a courteous and professional manner.
- Performs routine equipment maintenance following documented procedures.
- Documents all maintenance performed, including minor troubleshooting following manufacturer’s instructions.
- Ensures all quality control checks and standards are maintained
- Other duties as assigned
What YOU bring to the role:
- Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent previous experience
- Graduate of an approved laboratory assistant course or equivalent
- Excellent computer skills
Nice to have:
- Knowledge of AS400 Data Entry system/LIS an asset
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
- Good organizational skills
- Ability to work independently
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team centered environment.
Pay rate: $22.00-$24.50 per hour
The hiring pay range has been established; however, the final pay offer will be determined by taking into consideration various factors including but not limited to, level of experience and education requirements.
